    VIA HFR is a Crown Corporation and, as such, is required to comply with the provisions of the Employment Equity Act. This Act identifies four designated groups: women, indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities and members of visible minorities. By responding to the following questions, you will help us manage and measure the effectiveness of VIA's initiatives to attract at all levels, members of targeted groups. While your response is voluntary, we strongly encourage you to self-identify and you may identify yourself in more than one of the designated groups.

    A. A person with a disability:
    A person with a disability has a long-term or recurring physical, mental, sensory, psychiatric or learning impairment and con-siders himself/herself to be disadvantaged in employment by reason of that impairment, or, be-lieves that an employer or potential employer is likely to consider him/her to be disadvantaged in employment by reason of that impairment, and includes persons whose functional limitations owing to their impairment have been accommodated in their current job or workplace.

    B. An Indigenous person:
    An Indigenous person is a collective name for the original peoples of North America and their descendants. The Canadian Constitution recognizes 3 groups of Aboriginal peoples: Indians (more commonly referred to as First Nations), Inuit and Métis. These are 3 distinct peoples with unique histories, languages, cultural practices and spiritual beliefs.

    C. A person in a visible minority:
    A person in a visible minority in Canada is someone (other than an Aboriginal person as defined in B above) who is non-white in color/race, regardless of place of birth.

    The answers you provide to the questions below will remain confidential and will only be used by VIA HFR for carrying out their obligations under the Employment Equity Act.
